Get Your Flash ON!
Flash Fiction Workshop (online)
What is flash fiction?
Flash fiction (also known as micro-fiction, smoke-long fiction, sudden fiction, drabble, or short, short fiction!) is usually under 1,000 words. It’s dense, immediate, and often surprising — funny, weird, dark, poetic, or experimental. At its best, flash fiction moves the reader in just a few lines.
Perfect for new writers or experienced scribes looking to experiment, it’s a form that teaches precision, creativity, and bold storytelling.
What will this workshop entail?
This two-hour, real-time online workshop is led by award-winning flasher, anthology editor, and WriteClub founder Alison Powell.
You’ll explore examples of outstanding flash fiction, gain insight into Alison’s own process, and leave with fresh ideas and a few flash drafts of your own!

In this session, you will:
âš¡ Discover brilliant examples of flash fiction
âš¡ Explore the (sometimes blurry) line between flash and prose poetry
âš¡ Learn techniques for writing exciting, compact stories
âš¡ Receive a wealth of prompts to kickstart your ideas
âš¡ Get practical tips for publishing your work

One-to-one mentoring
If you'd like me to read your short story or a chapter of your work in progress or help you out with a query letter to an agent, a drop in session could be just the ticket. We'll meet on Zoom and I'll read through up to 2500 words of your work in advance. I'll prepare a curated reading list and thoughtful feedback on your work and help you take the next steps in your writing journey.
If you'd like more sustained support, The Writer's Path is a tailored mentoring program that will really help you get your writing off the ground.
